What is a Virtual Run?

A virtual run can be run – or even walked – from anywhere and at any time of your choosing. Run/walk at your own pace during the clock-in period.

Use the MOVE by LIV3LY app on your mobile phone to track and clock in your run/walk.

Who can participate?

Participants of all ages and physical ability are welcome to join us in this virtual run. You can participate as an individual or as a team! 

You don’t even have to be located in Hong Kong!

What are the distances to choose from?

  • Individual Category
    • 3KM
    • 5KM
    • 10KM
    • 42K – Terry ran close to this distance, a full marathon, every day!
    • 143KM – Terry ran for 143 days! 
  • Teams Category
    • 143KM – Terry ran for 143 days! 
    • 2,940km – Finish Terry’s cross Canada run! 
    • 5,373KM – Total distance ran by Terry

How will I know if my registration is successful?

You will receive an email upon successful registration to your registered email address during online registration.

*Note: Participants would only be able to activate their race entry on MOVE by LIV3LY App from 0000 8 January 2022 and onwards.

I have not received the confirmation slip despite registering what should I do?

This could be due to a variety of reasons:

(1) Your registration was unsuccessful,

(2) There could be an error in the email used for the registration,

(3) The confirmation email is blocked and/or treated as spam.

What should I do if I do not see the event listed on my MOVE by LIV3LY APP upon my registration?

Kindly check if you have received the confirmation slip. Do ensure that the email used for the MOVE app is the same email used to register for the event and the app is updated to the latest version.

Can I change my distance after registering?

We regret to inform you that participants are not able to change your distance selection once the registration is confirmed. But don’t worry! We are a non-competitive event. All we ask (and as Terry once said) is that you try and give it your best efforts.

When is the clock in period?

Saturday, January,8th 0000HRS to Sunday, February 6th, 2359HRS (HKT)

How do I track my distance?

a.) Use the MOVE by LIV3LY running tracker to track the distance and time for your runs. 

For the most accurate readings, you should only use the MOVE by LIV3LY app in your mobile phone to track your run. Using the app in conjunction with other apps or trackers is not ideal.

Make sure that in your mobile phone settings, set Location Access for the MOVE by LIV3LY app to “Always Allow”.


b.) You can also use any of the following integrated trackers:

  1. MapMyRun
  2. Apple HealthKit
  3. Google Fit

Do note that treadmill tracking is limited to wearables available through the available integrated trackers on the MOVE by LIV3LY app.


c.) You may also submit results manually at It’ll only take 2 minutes.

Please prepare a screenshot of your workout, and indicate the time and date of your run/walk, distance completed, and the duration of your run. Screenshots should include the date and distance indicated on the form for verification purposes. Allow at least 5 working days for verification of results using this method.

What is MOVE by LIV3LY App?

MOVE by LIV3LY App is the distance tracking App for the Terry Fox Virtual Run Hong Kong.

I don’t have a smartphone, can I still participate and have my distance recorded?

  • Yes! Just register via the weblink and submit your workouts manually.


No. You can either complete the entire distance at once or split the distance into different sessions. The only thing to note is that you have to complete the entire distance within the clock in period.


Yes, the app is able to detect if you are stationary or onboard a moving vehicle such as a car or a bicycle. In such cases, if the MOVE tracker is on, it will not include that particular distance travelled in the total recorded distance.

How do I connect Apple Health or Google Fit to the MOVE app?

  1. Head over to the “Activities” tab via the bottom panel by selecting the running man icon
  2. Click on settings and you would be able to see external integration
  3. Toggle on the Apple Healthkit/Google Fit
  4. Complete authorization:
    • For Apple Healthkit, click “Turn All Categories On” to complete the integration
    • For Google Fit, grant MOVE by LIV3LY permission in the pop-up to complete the integration

How do I connect apps like Strava, MapMyRun, Runkeeper to the MOVE app?

You can simply connect your apps to Apple Healthkit or Google Fit and follow the steps above to integrate them into MOVE by LIV3LY.

For Map My Run, you can integrate the tracker directly into MOVE by LIV3LY with the following steps:

  1. Head over to the “Activities” tab via the bottom panel by selecting the running man icon
  2. Click on settings and you would be able to see external integration
  3. Toggle on for Map My Run
  4. Complete authorization by signing into your Map My Run

Why should I connect by external run tracker to the MOVE app?

If you are using wearables that are already connected to your external run trackers, connecting them to the MOVE app makes it more convenient for you to participate in virtual runs.

How does it work?

Register and Activate on MOVE by LIV3LY App from November 7th and onwards

  • Your distances will be recorded on the MOVE by LIV3LY App, so download the app via the Apple App Store or Google Play.
  • Create your LIV3LY account, then search for the Terry Fox Virtual Run Hong Kong 2021 on LIV3LY’s event listings.
  • Click on the Terry Fox Virtual Run Hong Kong 2021 tab and complete the activation form. You will receive a confirmation email and in-app notification once you have activated your race entry successfully.
  • Start tracking your progress from Jan 8, 0000 hours to Feb 6, 2359 hours
  • Once you have completed the virtual run, you will receive a finisher e-badge and e-certificate.
